None of us can rely any longer on the fact that we live in a culture that was once Christian, that we are seemingly surrounded by other Christians, or that we once had faith. None of these alone is enough today to sustain a Christian faith in an age which is as agnostic, pluralistic, secular, seductive, and distracting as our own. We live in a post-Christian situation within which the culture no longer carries the faith for us…. It is easier to have faith in Christianity, in a code of ethics, in Jesus’ moral teaching, in God’s call for justice, and in the human value of gathering as a community, than it is to have personal faith in a living God. (Ronald Rolheiser, The Holy Longing, p216-217)
These words from Ronald Rolheiser challenge all of us to take seriously our need to grow in our faith. Unless we intentionally work on developing our faith, work on a growing relationship with Jesus, our faith will be inadequate to sustain us. Simply coming to church (when it is convenient) and trying to live a moral life, is not enough. Join the Adult Sunday school Class as we look at developing Holy Habits for the Christian Journey. Discover and develop new spiritual disciplines (holy habits) that will help us have a vital and personal faith that will carry us through the difficult times in which we live. We meet Sunday mornings @ 11:15 am in room 202. Come down and grab a donut in the Coffee Café and then join us for our look at the Holy Habits.
The Christian Ed Committee would like to thank you all for your prayers and service to our children! We are excited to have 5 new teachers join our teaching teams this year.
