Even in the dead of winter, God calls his people to spread His word and to meet the needs of His children here on earth!
During Lent, we are collecting our One Great Hour of Sharing Offering. Special envelopes are in the pew racks and the Sunday School children have their “Gracie Fish” coin box. Please encourage them to drop a coin in each time that you pray with them and talk about how this money will help others. This not only helps others but it teaches your child an early lesson in stewardship.
On Monday, February 22nd, twelve SCPC members attended a Family Promise Training Session at Sewickley United Methodist Church. This session gave us insights as to how best relate with the guests who are in a temporary homeless situation and how to enhance our volunteer experience. Sewickley Methodist Church will be hosting Family Promise guests just 4 weeks in the whole year!!! SCPC will be giving Sewickley United Methodist just one evening of support in each of their weeks, that means just 4 EVENINGS in the whole year for us. If we can get 8 to 10 different people each time, 2 for food, 2 for evening hospitality, 2 for the overnight stay and 1 or 2 van drivers, it could be just a commitment of 2 to 4 hours in the whole year. The overnight hosts spend a little more time but most of that is spent sleeping. The Monday Night Small Group plus Tom Capkovic and Dan Peters hosted in December. The March 16th evening is thus far being hosted by Gladys Johnston, Joe and Jeanne Sergi, Patty Brunette, Al Zalucky, Tom Capkovic and Jan Weber. Jan is the overnight host. WE NEED ONE MORE PERSON FOR OVERNIGHT!!!! Will other groups meet the challenge? Will the Session and Deacons step up for an evening? How about an evening for some of the other small groups? The choir could really add entertainment if they took an evening. In some churches, the Scouts take an evening. This ministry meets such a significant need but if many people volunteer, it does not have to be over whelming for anybody!!!! Are we really so busy that we can’t take 2 to 4 hours in the whole year to help our brothers and sisters when they need hospitality and shelter?
Romans12:13 “contribute to the needs of the saints, extend hospitality to strangers.”
At the time of this writing, we have about 8 people signed up to go to Open Mic night at the Uncommon Grounds Café, weather permitting. This promises to be a great evening of connection and entertainment.
On Saturday, April 16th, we are going to have a MISSION PLUNGE BEACH PARTY for the whole congregation. We will be collecting healthy non-perishable snack items and assembling summer snack packs for children in the Food Pantry. There will be food and games for both adults and children. Mark your calendars and get your beach gear ready for this fun evening!

If you haven’t already ordered your Easter Memorial flowers or still desire to make a memorial donation to the West Hills Food Pantry, it is not too late. Lilies and tulips are available for $8.50 each. The deadline is Sunday, March 5th. Please contact the church office.
The Membership Committee is looking forward to offering a New Members Class in the spring, anticipating that on Pentecost (May 15th) the new members would join our church family. The purpose of the class is to learn about Sharon Church and learn ways to engage in the church, to get to know other people joining our fellowship, to explore your Christian faith and what it means to be a member, and to learn about the Presbyterian denomination as well. If you are interested in participating, we are considering the options of Sunday mornings 9:00-9:45 before worship on April 17, 23, May 1 & 8 or on Tuesday evenings April 19 & 26 from 7:00-9:00PM. Please contact the church office (412-264-7400) and let us know which time you would prefer and if you are available for either time (we will accommodate the largest number of people when scheduling).
