As we begin, we know that some are hoping to preserve a tradition to which they have clung for many faithful years, and some are hoping to break into something very different from past ways. Yet this we have in common: a desire to serve the Living God with what we have and with who we are. Let us enter into this call with excitement, dedication, and joy!
We ask for everyone’s help. We ask those of you who feel called to serve in music ministry to come see what the different choirs are all about. The Bell Choir rehearses Wednesdays at 6:15 pm, and the Chancel Choir immediately following at 7:30 pm. We also rehearse at 9 am Sunday mornings. Are you an instrumentalist? Or maybe only want to sing for holidays? We welcome you as well! We do not require experience or explanations; just a desire to serve God through music.
For those of you who are not musically inclined, we ask for prayer. Please pray for God to provide direction for Mark and Treva as they transition into this new position. Please pray for the leadership at SCPC- Elders, Deacons, Committee Members, and Staff- that they might discern God’s will in the coming season. And please pray for the congregation of SCPC as they live into God’s call for them.
As we begin this journey, we invite you to consider this prayer from Howard Thurman, a gifted pastor who was a spiritual mentor to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.:
Teach me, my Father, that I might learn with the abandonment and enthusiasm of Jesus, the fresh new accent, the untried melody, to meet the need of the untried morrow. Thus, I may rejoice with each new day and delight my spirit in each fresh unfolding. I will sing, this day, a new song unto Thee, O God.
– From Meditations of the Heart (Thurman, Boston: Beacon Press, 1953)
In joyful anticipation of our partnership,
