For Sharon Church to become the place that God wants it to be, the place that we all want it to be, we must all use our gifts to strengthen the church. God has given to each person a gift (or gifts) that is to be used for building the church. “Out of the generosity of Christ, each of us is given his own gift” (Ephesians 4:7 The Message). “To each one of us grace has been given as Christ apportioned it… It was he who gave (these gifts) … to prepare God’s people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up (Ephesians 4:7, 11, 12 NIV).
If you know what your gifts are I encourage you to find opportunities to use them to build Sharon Church. We have many needs – how might God be calling you to use your gifts? Are you good at music? There are opportunities to sing in the choir, play bells, play guitar or bass or drums for worship. Are you good working with your hands? There are many projects waiting for people to do them. Is your gift teaching? Why not lead an adult Sunday school class or teach our children. Maybe you like to play with babies – we need volunteers to sit in the nursery with our little ones. Are you good at visiting with people and encouraging? We need Sunday greeters and people who will visit our members who are in the hospital or nursing homes. Do you have an artistic eye? We could use new, creative insights and ideas.
If you don’t know your gifts, what better place to experiment as you discover and develop your gifts. Sharon is a loving and forgiving community of faith. You might fail – so what? IBM encouraged its engineers to fail at least several times a year. If they didn’t fail that meant they weren’t growing and developing. Try something new, something that interests you. You may discover a new gift or a new passion for serving our Lord.
