Paul and the Underground Church!
As many of you know, Sharon’s 2017 Vacation Bible School Program was this past week. Held Sunday through Thursday evenings, we had 23 volunteers help a daily average of 40 kids learn about Jesus and help them build foundations for their future relationships with him. It is no small task.
During the week, the kids learn 5 bible points:
God’s Love is a Gift
God’s Love changes us
Gods Love is always with US
Gods love saves us
and
God’s love is worth sharing
Each day they would start with an opening celebration, then they moved either into the Market Place, which they had several Shops to choose from with activities, staffed by volunteers who encouraged the kids to understand how Christians lived in Rome during the time of Paul.
Speaking of Paul, the second place the kids would visit was Paul’s House, who was under house arrest guarded by Brutus. He would tell the kids about Jesus and discussed the various bible points each day. After meeting with Paul and his guard, they then moved into the underground church and learn how the Christians who hadn’t yet been arrested hid and worshipped in the Underground Church.
The third station was playing outdoor games while learning about how roman children passed they time, or how everyday people accomplished tasks like fire fighting.
Our market always features a mission project, and this year Operation Kid to Kid was teaching the kids about Peru, and how many kids there require sanitary water filters to get drinkable water. We raised $214 and change. This amount will provide 42 kids to have safe drinking water for a year.
Right now I would like to invite all the kids and VBS volunteers up to participate in one last song. We will now play a short two minute video with some clips of what we did this week and follow that up with the VBS Rome Theme Song.
After the service, we invite everyone to come downstairs for drinks and a light snack and to see the marketplace and VBS set up.
Thank you to all those to Volunteered their time and or their resources to making this week happen!
