Session

The Session of Sharon Church consists of fifteen ruling elders, who are church members elected to their positions by the congregation, and a teaching elder (pastor) who acts as the moderator (chair). Sharon Church has a unicameral governing body and thus each ruling elder, when so elected, is also elected as a trustee of the Sharon Church Corporation. The Clerk is elected by Session and may be any Elder of the congregation. The Session holds regular meetings on the second Tuesday of each month (except in July and August) and occasional special meetings for specific pre-announced purposes.

The Session is to discern and measure the church’s fidelity to the Word of God and to strengthen and nurture its faith and life. The Session exercises leadership, government, discernment and discipline and is responsible for the life of the congregation as well as the whole church. The work of Session is carried out through seven standing committees that may include non-members of Session: Worship, Music and Arts; Christian Education; Mission and Stewardship; Personnel; Finance; Property and Maintenance; and Nominating.
